In 2008, the current CEO of ADINVEST International, who used to work on accounting and financing issues for SMEs for many years, decided to use his network to face new challenges on financing equity of SMEs with private investors. The promotion of these critical needs has collected an obvious interest of private individual investors shocked by the subprime mortgage crisis. Thus, they were intended to reinject a part of their holdings in the real economy. The success of this initiative has led to the creation of an association for federating all these investors and animate their purposes: an association was created in the south of France to support and organize this initiative. In 2011, more than 35 investors were involved periodically in evaluating SME’s projects for investing.

In 2012 after some financing process experiences, it seemed obvious that SME’s owners had to be mentored to face these issues to identify and structure the SME’s interests to organize the relevant solutions for both parties.

In 2013, it was decided to capitalize on this experience to help other consultants in other regions in France first and rapidly in other European regions. The European dimension of the need appeared clearly at this period when discussing with various institutions.

In 2014, ADINVEST International was created for implementing a professional mentor network at the EU level to provide these experiences and methods to all European regions, through providing the existing mentoring approach and the mutualization of SMEs requests for any cooperation, business development, or fundings.

It became clear during this period that there was a need to federate the various initiatives to professionalize the mentoring approach in a dedicated structure not related to business. ADINVEST Europe aisbl (non-profit association) was created to take over all European projects involving network actors in former EU funded mentoring projects:
• INSIST – focused on transmission issues,
• TRUST-ME, with a European Training Programme for Business Mentor (including a skill card),
• MENTORCERT, specialization, and certification scheme.

Since then, local mentors are members of ADINVEST Europe aisbl which manages the evolution of the training of Business Mentors, transfer of competencies, practices sharing, and support all mentors requested needs in specific areas like the internationalization, the R&D cooperation at the European level.
